Short bio
Monagi is the artistic project of Ghent-based songwriter, and producer Jess Jacob. Before launching Monagi, Jess spent over a decade as a guitarist in bands including Tout Va Bien, Piquet, and Ganashake. In 2022, he stepped into the spotlight with his own songs, embracing French as his primary writing language to explore deeply personal stories with honesty and emotional nuance. Alongside Monagi, he has become increasingly active as a producer and songwriter, collaborating with artists such as Patches and The Shadow Machine.
Following a string of acclaimed singles, Monagi released the debut album Tout ce temps, which received praise from the French music magazine Maze.fr for its distinctive sound and songwriting. The project continued to evolve with the second album, Tête dans les nuages, a cinematic record reflecting on lost dreams, memories, and the roads left unexplored.
On stage, Monagi has supported artists including Zimmerman and Belgian indie act Ão, performing at renowned venues such as Ancienne Belgique in Brussels.
With one foot in classic French chanson and the other in contemporary indie folk and alternative pop, Monagi creates cinematic songs where intimate storytelling meets lush, atmospheric production.
November 2nd 2023 Monagi played the support show of Zimmerman at Café Café Hasselt.
This was an intimate duo performance created for future support shows and small settings.
The 26th of March Monagi will be playing the support show for Ão in a sold out Ancienne Belgique.
Monagi's first EP "Tout ce temps" got featured in Maze.fr's "Musique en bref"
"Dès les premières notes de Tout ce temps, il est évident que nous sommes à l’aube d’une expérience musicale singulière."
"La signature vocale du chanteur, si distinctive, se mêle avec audace aux tonalités vibrantes de piano et de guitare. On est rapidement emporté par cette déferlante musicale où la mélancolie se mêle à l’énergie, faisant de cet EP une sortie à ne pas manquer cette année."
Coups de cœur : Tout ce temps, Danse dorée.
